Surgery Department Renovations -- Indian Path Medical Center -- Kingsport, TN

S. B. White Company was selected to work on an ultra fast track renovation project at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.  This project involves the renovation of two existing operating rooms and converting another older operating room into a new clean supplies and service area.  This project also includes converting an existing holding area into a new Pre-Op Holding suite.  This project is a challenging one in that all the work has to be finished in 60 days.  Surgery rooms are a big money maker for most hospitals and that is the case at IPMC.  The owner needs these rooms renovated and reopened as quickly as possible.  We have partnered with GRC, Inc. (or GoinsRashCain, Inc.) out of Kingsport as the general contractor.  Tim McGahey Architects in Johnson City and Applied Engineering in Knoxville round out the design team.

As part of this project, S. B. White is running all new medical gas lines to both new surgery suites as well as installing new outlets, zone valves, and alarms for the new Pre-op Holding Area.  This work is always challenging since it often requires whole hospital shutdowns and working around very sensitive equipment and services that cannot be interupted.  We are also running new steam piping to serve the new sterilzer units furnished by Steris and minor plumbing modifications as well.

As far as HVAC work, S. B. White is installing the special hospital operating room diffuser system (or HORD) as manufactured by Price Industries.  These complicated linear slot type supply systems get installed in operating room ceilings and create an air curtain effect around the operating table.  This helps to ensure that no foreign particles or contaminants in the air can get over above the patient on the table.  They are a system of ducts and plenums that has to be installed prior to ceiling framing and perfectly level and spaced out appropriately.  Otherwise, the stainless steel diffusers will not be able to be installed correctly once the ceilings are finished and painted.

At S. B. White, we are pleased to be working on another high profile time sensitive project for Mountain States Health Alliance (or MSHA).  Over the years we have been able to deliver a quality installation no matter the circumstances to MSHA, one of our best customers, and this project should not be an exception.
