Generator Replacement for Johnson City Medical Center
S. B. White Company was selected to work with Hodge Electric to replace the existing emergency generators at Johnson City Medical Center. The hospital has purchased two (2) Caterpillar 2000 kW standby diesel powered packaged generator sets from Stowers Power Systems. These are to replace two aging existing generators. The installation involves two (2) new diesel fuel day tanks with duplex pumps and associated fuel piping and tank venting. These new generators also come with four (4) new 12" diameter connection steel mufflers that are to be hung above the ceiling in the adjacent corridor amoungst all of the existing sprinkler piping and conduit. These monsterous mufflers have 12" schedule 40 weld pipe from the generator connections to the mufflers and on through the roof and vented outside. These new generators also required new galvanized sheetmetal and angle iron exhaust plenums to be constructed in which new motorized dampers and actuators from Johnson Controls are to be installed. These make a sealed connection from the exhaust fan on the generators to the existing huge louvers in the outside wall and create a "wall" of motorized dampers behind the louver that open when the generator is fired up. Some of the pictures from the installation are below.
